Tyne United Rowing Club

Rowing is one of the most popular activities in the North East - did you know that we have the largest amount of people rowing in the UK outside of London?

Tyne United Rowing Club is one of Gateshead’s newest community sports club’s based in the West of Gateshead near to Blaydon, Ryton and Crawcrook, located next to Newburn Bridge on the Gateshead bank of the River Tyne.

Founded in 2007, the club became operational in April 2009 and already boasts some great facilities, including 4 boat storage sheds, an indoor gym shed including weights setup, indoor rowing machines and a state of the art 8 person indoor rowing tank, as well as a modern club house building.

For further information on prices and dates of the courses contact the club directly. For all rowing sessions on the water please note that all participants should bring a change of clothes, towel, gloves, wellington boots and waterproof clothing.

Learn to Row Courses

Ideal for all beginners, people are encouraged to take part in a full 10 week Learn to Row course to learn the basics from using the indoor machines safely, learning the technique on and off the water in the indoor rowing tank, as well as getting onto the River Tyne in stable beginner boats to develop the technique further!

L2R courses include all coaching by a UKCC Level 2 qualified coach, use of all equipment including boats and oars, course handbook, temporary club membership and an annual British Rowing membership. Sessions are coached over a duration of 10 weeks, with a weekly 2 hour session.

The club also run club open evenings and FREE taster sessions prior to all Learn to Row courses, please check the club website L2R page for more information!
